Oracle Warehouse Builder 11g - New Functionality
Based on Oracle's Beta (5) 11.1.0.5.0 for Linux x86
Overview
This document provides a high level overview of some of the new functionality within Oracle Warehouse Builder 11g. This product is currently in Beta testing; some of these features may be modified or removed before OWB 11g goes production.
SYSDBA Privileges no longer needed for repository creation
In previous versions of OWB, a user with SYSDBA privileges was required to build a design and runtime repository. This limitation is no longer imposed in OWB 11g. Lead Developers now have the ability to build their own repositories and create their own mappings independent of the development team without DBA interaction.
Repositories can now be divided into workspaces
Previously, when a repository user was created, the user would, by default, have access to ALL the objects within the repository. Now the repository can be subdivided into Workspaces. These Workspaces have Workspace Owners that have the authority to grant access on various objects to repository users. This verifies that the repository user will only have access to what they are supposed to.
Process Flows no longer require Oracle Workflow
Previously, in order to deploy process flows you needed to install and configure Oracle Workflow as the deployment mechanism. OWB 11g comes with the Oracle Workflow components embedded. This allows the developer to easily deploy process flows and manage job dependencies'.
Security for the metadata objects can now be addressed through the Design Center interface
The Design Center can now control functionality on an objects metadata. This functionality includes (but is not limited too) cut, edit, paste, create, import, rename, export, validate, and create snapshot. If this functionality was implemented via a PL/SQL package, OWB 11g still supports that mechanism as well.
