installed into the target database and invoked while SQL "of interest" is
running. The utility performs a comprehensive analysis of the running statement
(or set of statements) and everything related to them, from execution plans
evaluated, to initialization parameters, to intimate detail of tables and
indexes involved in the query. The results of this analysis are output in a
nicely formatted HTML report. This presentation describes a real world sample of
this report and how it is useful. In particular, the recommendations section of

Recession-proof your company with SOA (IOUG) - Development
The ability to rapidly modify service offerings is becoming key to success in
today's turbulent economy. Many companies are turning to SOA to help their
business reduce development effort and achieve agility, but implementing SOA
effectively has proved a daunting challenge all its own. How can today's IT
managers and CIOs realistically propose SOA and quickly deliver benefits without
risking their jobs? Rolta TUSC's Brad Brown will explain why historic SOA
implementations have failed, how you can benefit from innovative software that
fundamentally transforms the complexity of implementing SOA to an "instant"
task, and how an agile, iterative approach can deliver rapid ROI for your
business and ultimately lower total cost of ownership. In a time where budgets
can be cut at a moment's notice, this briefing will ensure you derive value from
your SOA initiatives in weeks and become the "hero" for your business.
Building a User Definable and Flexible UI with ApEx - Case Study(IOUG) - Development
Brad will discuss how he built a GUI and GIS application with ApEx for
Independent Nation. Independent Nation is a company that specializes in
providing intelligence to independent voters. The application is used to provide
that intelligence. Merging voter registration, voter contribution and numerous
other data sources, Brad built an application that is dynamic and flexible. The
application can easily be used for any other GIS-type applications. It's built
on data about people, their properties or addresses they live at, and other
information about them. This case study will demonstrate Brad's approach to
designing and developing applications that allow customization by changing data,
not code.

technologies. The primary focus will be on Oracle Real Application Clusters but
will also touch on VERITAS Cluster Services, HP Service Guard and several other
cluster solutions. When implementing a clustering technology, what key criteria
from an operations perspective, skill perspective need to be taken into
consideration? Additionally what is the un-communicated Service Level
expectation? Going beyond what the SLA or SLO may have been documented; Clusters
can do wonderfully visible bad things. Though it is intend to aid in
infrastructure stability, when not implemented correctly Clustering can have
unanticipated results.
Flying in the Clouds-- an Introduction to Cloud Computing (IOUG)
- Infrastructure Technologies
An Introduction to Cloud Computing, fundamental concepts, principles, benefits,
and challenges. The session will start with an overview of Cloud and helping to
define what cloud is and what it consists of-- a 101 so to speak so that
participants have a firm understanding of Cloud Computing, Software as Service,
and the concepts that makeup this new paradigm. We will cover what makes cloud
computing unique from its predecessor paradigms and why the industry is so
excited about moving companies and data centers into the cloud. The session will
also cover practical approaches to implementing a cloud project, both as a cloud
provider or a cloud consumerin other words a methodology for "entering the
cloud". We will also cover approaches for overcoming challenges, dispelling
myths, and how to take incremental steps for getting started with a cloud
implementation.
SOA Today: How to use Agile Methodologies on SOA and achieve Rapid
Results(IOUG) - Master Data Mgmt/Application Integration
Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) is complex, lengthy, and riddled with
challenges. Many organizations have had frustrating experiences in the path they
chose and some have even given up on their SOA initiatives. This session will
present a refreshing and effective approach to achieving rapid and incremental
results in SOA, all the while educating participants on how to keep their
projects aligned with the "big-picture" SOA Roadmap. Approaches include how to
leverage an Agile methodology with SOA, when to use top-down vs. bottom-up vs.
middle-out, and how to ensure business success through the use of SOA pilots.
The session will also cover fundamental principles of Service Oriented
Architecture by explaining definitions, concepts, and practices. This will help
participants gain a common understanding of what SOA is, what constitutes SOA,
and why it is so important to businesses.
A Failure to Communicate(IOUG) - Professional Development
This presentation is a look at why teams fail to communicate. The reasons often
make a lot more sense than most people think. It's not just politics, but often
life and personalities that get in the way of project successes. Are you part of
the solution or part of the problem? Do you escalate or de-escalate a situation?
Successful projects have a lot more to do with the process and structure of a
project than the people and the synergy of those people. Setting up the right
processes to run a project builds the synergy necessary to create a great team
environment. This session will focus on project critical success factors as well
as what makes a winning instead of whining team.
