Rich Niemiec, CEO of TUSC named a national TRIO achiever for 2006
Rich Niemiec, CEO of TUSC and an alumnus of the Trio pre-college program Upward Bound at Purdue University Calumet and a graduate of Purdue University West Lafayette in Electrical Engineering, was named a national TRIO achiever for 2006. The award is presented to only 6 people annually out of over 2 million graduates of the program by the Council for Opportunity for Education, which recognizes achievement of TRIO graduates. TRIO is a series of programs, originally established in 1965 by President Lyndon B. Johnson & signed into law by Congress, to help low-income Americans that are first generation college students, enter college, graduate and move on to participate more fully in America's economic and social life. Previous winners of the award include ABC's John Quinones, astronaut Franklin Chang-Diaz and Congresswoman Gwen Moore.
